Julian English spoke to Lisa Lucey about her success at the Irish Dentistry Awards.

How does it feel to have won an Irish Dentistry Award?

I feel humbled and honoured to have won Best Patient Care, it is a great achievement. More importantly, it’s great recognition of the all the effort and hard work by the whole team all year long to provide the best care possible to all our patients. So, the team deserves great credit for this.

How did it feel when your name was announced?

Honestly, I was shocked and delighted. My team was present with me at the time and it took a few seconds to register that Lucey Dental & Aesthetics had been called out as winner. But once that sank in, we were ecstatic, and I was delighted for my team.

What do you think have been the main benefits of entering the awards?

Entering the awards involves collating a lot of good work and material that are carried out in the practice all year, and telling our story. In doing this, it creates an opportunity to reflect on the things we have done and identify how we can do better and do more for the year ahead.

Thus, we can continue to improve and raise our standards, and ultimately provide even better care to our patients. It also provides an opportunity for the team to celebrate all the hard work they have done over the course of the year, and also to meet and network with peers and fellow professionals.

Have you entered before?

Yes, we have entered the awards every year for the past several years! We are fortunate to have been winners on previous occasions, and received several highly commended awards.

What do you think the Irish Dentistry Awards are doing for standards within the profession?

I have no doubt that the awards are helping to provide a focus on the standards we all operate to at present, and how we can improve those standards and learn from each other to improve the standards generally within the profession.

What advice would you give people who are thinking of entering the awards?

Just do it, don’t wait, and just be authentic and tell your story.

What’s your favourite product of the last 12 months and why?

That is a difficult one, as we have used many great products this past year. If I had to pick one, it would be the Dentaqua disinfection and fogging system. It is a really good system and a very important element of the suite of measures we have implemented as part of our sustainability journey.

Will you be entering the awards again?

Yes, absolutely.
