SDLP warns of ‘short-sighted’ cuts

by Guy Hiscott

A warning from the British Dental Association (BDA) about the damaging effects of cuts to dental services in Northern Ireland has been echoed by the Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP).
Mark H Durkan, member of the Legislative Assembly for Foyle, and SDLP Health Spokesperson, said that the funding cuts would have a serious impact, particularly in the most deprived communities.
As well as speaking with dentists in his constituency, Mr Durkan said that he had also raised the matter with the Health, Social Services and Public Safety Committee, which will be taking evidence from the BDA on the impact that the proposed cuts will have on the provision of dental services.
Describing the cuts as ‘short-sighted’, Mr Durkan urged the Health Minister to act to protect dental services for all NHS patients.
