Improve your daily dentistry

by Guy Hiscott

Dentists can pick up essential tips for improving their daily practice when the Munster branch of the Irish Dental Association holds its Annual Scientific Meeting later this month.
The ASM will take place on 11 October at Cork’s Fota Island Resort and Hotel – a venue favoured by the branch for its ease of accessibility and excellent catering.
President of the Munster branch, Dr Maire Brennan, said: ‘The ASM is always an enjoyable day out, with plenty of information on offer and a good social and trade side to it too.
‘This year, we’ve concentrated on finding speakers who will help make daily practice easier for dentists, and update people’s knowledge and skills in important areas of everyday dentistry.’
The key speaker this year is Dr Marga Ree, an internationally-renowned Dutch endodontist and restorative dentist.
Dr Ree will focus on practical everyday endodontics and restorative dentistry, as well as discussing the increasingly common dilemma of choosing an implant over endodontic re-treatment with regard to the long term prognosis.
The event will also feature a lecture by the ever-popular Dr Paddy Crotty, who has earned an excellent reputation for conservative dentistry using composite to achieve outstanding results. The state pathologist, Professor Marie Cassidy, rounds out the speaker list, with an intriguing look at the importance of dental records outside dentistry.
Dentists should have received the registration form for the event in the most recent issue of the IDA journal, but can also register on the day.

The hotel is offering delegates discounted rates of €140 for twin/double rooms (and €125 for single occupancy) per night for dentists who want to make a weekend of it – simply ask for the IDA rate when booking.
