Success for dental charity drive

by Guy Hiscott

An Eniskillen dental practice has raised nearly £14,000 to go towards the fight against cancer.

Belmore Dental Studio and Implant Clinic held a charity golf day and midsummer’s ball on 24 May 2013 at the Lough Erne Resort, Co. Fermanagh in aid of Cancer Connect NI.

Nearly 30 four-ball teams took part and some fabulous prizes were up for grabs, ranging from a Toyota Yaris – which would have gone to any golfer scoring a hole in one – to two Callaway holdalls.

Peter Fivey, David Robertson, Mark Masterson and Paul McCarney, from Northern Ireland, made up the winning team. They each won the top prize a Cobra Amp Cell Driver worth about £200.

The tournament was sponsored by dental companies Biohorizons, Bredent, Dentsply, BF Mulholland, Dental Medical Ireland, Southern Cross Dental Laboratories, Dentaquip and Click Dental.

After the tournament, the Belmore Midsummer’s Ball was held with more than 300 people in attendance. A raffle draw and charity auction made the fun and games continue and guests could dance the night away after having a five-course meal.

The two-part extravaganza made such an impact that the practice is considering putting it on every year.

Lorraine Brown, practice manager, said: ‘The event was a huge success and we are delighted with the results. As this was the first time we have tried to organise a golf open day, we really didn’t know what to expect, but it could not have turned out better. The support and sponsorship we received from the local community and dental companies we work with was amazing. After the success of this year we are hoping to make this an annual event.’
