Ireland hailed as rising star of research community

by Guy Hiscott

Scientific research in Ireland has been singled out as an ‘up and coming’ area of excellence by scientific journal Nature.

The magazine ranked Ireland 20th in its Nature Publishing Index, which ranks international research institutes based on the number of articles published in its associated journals.

But the country also earned a special mention as one of five destinations to watch on account the quality and quantity of scientific research currently being carried out.

The Director General of Science Foundation Ireland (SFI), Professor Mark Ferguson, said the announcement ‘demonstrates Ireland’s respected international profile among the global science community’.
