Dental education reaches a new high

by Guy Hiscott

Six teachers from Cork University’s Dental School and Hospital have successfully completed postgraduate certificates in teaching and learning in higher education, while another member of staff has earned a diploma in the same subject.

Dr Michael Murphy, president of University College Cork, presented Dr Sharon Curtin, Ms Caroline Horgan, Dr Derek Mulcahy, Dr Fiona MacSweeney, Siobhan McSweeney and Dr Gerry McKenna with a certificate, while Dr Mary O’Reilly received a diploma.

The aim of the certificate in teaching and learning in higher education is to enable academics to approach the practice of such teaching with a critical perspective on theories of student learning relevant to their disciplinary context. The diploma aims to achieve the same goals, with the added topics of disciplinary approaches to teaching and learning in higher education and diversity in student learning.
