Moloney Award 2010 recipient announced

by Guy Hiscott

Dr Seamus Sharkey is this year’s winner of the Moloney Award, for his presentation entitled The use of indices in fixed prosthodontics.

Dr Sharkey provided a five-minute practical display of some of the uses of silicone indices in fixed prosthodontics at the Irish Dental Association’s (IDA) annual scientific meeting in Galway.

The uses shown by Dr Sharkey included:
• The transfer of diagnostic wax-ups
• The fabrication of provisional restorations
• In composite restorations
• In the diagnostic evaluation of tooth reduction.

The presentation successfully showed simple and cost-effective ways to improve efficiency and clinical results.

Dr Sharkey received the award, a Waterford crystal glass trophy, from Dr Patrick Crotty, a trustee of the Dental Health Foundation of Ireland.

The Moloney Award was established in 2003 to recognise the outstanding contribution made by the late Dr Joe Moloney to promoting oral health in Ireland, through his involvement as a founding member of the Dental Health Foundation and his lifetime contribution to the IDA.
