Poll results support existence of dental benefits scheme

A large majority of voters are opposed to cutting social welfare benefits in this December’s budget, according to an opinion poll published earlier this week.
Over three-quarters of respondents to the Irish Times poll said welfare rates should not be cut as part of measures to reduce public spending.
The Irish Dental Association welcomed the outcome of the Irish Times/TNS mrbi poll.
Fintan Hourihan, chief executive of the IDA, said that the survey highlighted that people want to preserve the Social Welfare infrastructure: ‘Seventy-five per cent of respondents in the survey said they didn’t want to see cuts in Social Welfare so that is a clear message to the Government about the risk of tampering with a scheme like the DTBS which employees have been paying into for decades.’
