by Guy Hiscott

University College Cork’s Dental Society will host the Irish Dental Students’ Association Conference this weekend.

Dental students from Trinity College Dublin and Queens University Belfast will be among the delegates who will gather at UCC this evening (27 February) for the weekend event.

Following a social gathering on the Friday evening, the Conference will commence at 11am in the Aula Maxima on Saturday, 28 February.

Speakers include Professor Duncan Sleeman, an eminent consultant maxillofacial surgeon, who will speak on facial reconstruction, and Dr Kieran Doran, who will discuss the legal aspects of dentistry.

Former Head of the Cork Dental School & Hospital, Professor Robert McConnell, will focus on the ‘mega-trends’ in modern restorative dentistry, while Dr John Gallagher, a consultant in occupational medicine, will explore the occupational hazards of dentistry.

Admission to the conference is free of charge.

The highlight of the Conference is set to be the gala ball, which will take place in Rochestown Park Hotel on 28 February.
