Dental patients pick Casablanca as best movie kiss
by Guy Hiscott
Dental patients picked Casablanca as having the best ever smooch on the big screen.
The kiss between Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman in the 1942 wartime classic topped a poll of 500 female patients conducted by the Kissdental private dental practice in Manchester.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslett’s encounter in Titanic came second, while Omar Sharif and Julie Christie in Dr Zhivago were third.
‘We were pleasantly surprised by the results,’ says Kissdental owner Kailesh Solanki.
‘When it comes to great movie kisses, clearly nothing beats the chemistry of old-fashioned romance.’
Other famous kissing scenes that made the top 10 included the surf romp in From Here To Eternity between Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr and the classic epic Gone With The Wind with Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh.
Surprise entries included the upside-down kiss in Spiderman 2 between Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst and a kiss between two green ogres in children’s animation, Shrek (voiced by Mike Myers and Cameron Diaz).
‘There are some classic kissing scenes that stand the test of time,’ says Solanki.
‘The survey shows that kissing is more about romance and true love than it is about sex.’
