Schottlander Prize winner announced

by Guy Hiscott

Awarded by Bristol University Open Learning for Dentists (BUOLD) for the best case study in the prosthetics module, the annual Schottlander Prize was won by Patrick Johns, a Community Dental Officer with the Southern Health and Social Services Trust, Northern Ireland.

Presenting the prize at the Awards ceremony in Bristol, Brian Schottlander said: ‘Prosthetics as a branch of dentistry is both technically demanding and very people-centred. The judges were particularly impressed,’ he continued, ‘both with the high quality of the work, carried out in the challenging environment of domiciliary visits, and with your sense of care for the patient’.

Apart from the Prosthetic Dentistry module Patrick also completed the Diploma courses in Paediatric Dentistry and Anxiety Control and Sedation.

Patrick explained that he chose these particular courses out of the BUOLD options because, ‘They would better enable me to look after the needs of my patients’.
