Belfast dental technology tutor appointed to protect public
by Guy Hiscott
Dental technology tutor David Kime has been appointed by the General Dental Council (GDC) to consider cases where a dental professional may not be fit to work because of poor skills, health or conduct.
The GDC investigates any dental professional who fails to meet expected standards. Serious failures are subject to a public hearing by the Fitness to Practise Panel, which can restrict or remove the dental professional’s right to work in the UK.
As a member of the Fitness to Practise Panel, David will protect the general public by hearing evidence and determining if any action needs to be taken against the dental professional’s registration.
David said: ‘This is an exciting time for all dental care professionals who will soon need to be registered with the GDC. The General Dental Council regulates all members of the dental team and protects dental patients. I wish to make a contribution to this important work.’
David first trained in dental technology 35 years ago before undertaking a Higher and Further Education Teaching Certificate in Belfast. He has been teaching at the School of Dentistry, Queen’s University of Belfast, since completing his training.
